Our Targets

The Project aims to provide Public Access Defibrillators into the more ‘at risk’ rural areas in Buckinghamshire. It is a recognised fact that if treatment to stabilise a patient’s heart is provided quickly then the patient has a much improved chance of making a full recovery. In the case of heart failure minutes matter.

We understand the problems facing Ambulance Services especially when directed to rural areas that may be outside the 8 minute targeted time and therefore providing Public Access Defibrillators in these areas gives people in trouble an increased chance of survival. Our initiative seeks to save lives by placing defibrillators in 24/7 accessible places in Princes Risborough and the surrounding villages.

The Defibrillators we provide are the same units that are supplied to the SCAS teams and are quickly and easily accessible by anyone to use. Dialing 999 to seek help with a potential heart attack victim is key as this gives access to entry code for each unit and allows advice to be given by the Emergency Services.

We are working in co-operation with the volunteer First Responders in Princes Risborough, the South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS), Princes Risborough Golf Club, Risboro’ Garage, local Parish Councils, Sports Organisations and local business to raise funding to provide each unit. So far we have been successful in raising over £50,000 and provided 23 Units in and around Princes Risborough.

This has greatly improved Defibrillator availability within Princes Risborough and the Parishes of Lacey Green, Bradenham, Hampden, Longwick, Haddenam and Bledlow-cum Saunderton, Ellesborough and Hughenden. We have also helped further afield in Bierton, Winchmore Hill, Wingrave and Bishopstone.

Having achieved our initial target for Public Access Defibrillators within the Princes Risborough area and surrounding villages we are now able to widen the net to help those who share our concerns in other areas of rural Buckinghamshire so others will follow.

“If we save one life it will be priceless to the family concerned”.

Operation

Each Defibrillator will be housed in an accessible lockable cabinet with key access via an adjacent key safe. The code for the safe will be known to local volunteers and SCAS who will be able to direct emergency callers to the relevant location.

The defibrillators are easy to use by the public and SCAS will also give step by step instructions to all emergency callers who need to use the machine.

Training will be provided to a team of volunteers on a regular basis so that local expertise is more likely to be on hand to assist in emergency situations.

A small working group will be established to ensure that each Defibrillator is maintained in working condition and is fit for purpose.

Funding

The cost of providing a Defibrillator is in the region of £1,500. Princes Risborough Golf Club and Risboro Garage started the ball rolling funded one each via the RCDG and further funding is coming in gradually through several funding streams including the NHS, Local Parish Councils, local Members of District and County Councils together with fund raising appeals to the general public.

Our inaugral golf day is being arranged at Princes Risborough Golf Club sponsored by the Club, No10 Restaurant and with fantastic support from Risboro Tyres.
